With the help of designers One-off interiors, Marian and Rob rescued their tired kitchen...

Living with a dated kitchen had taken its toll on Marian and her partner Rob, and after three years of looking at the old-fashioned decor they knew it was time for a change.

The couple's first plan was for a low-key makeover. 'We only had basic DIY skills, so we didn't really know where to start,' admits Marian. They began by searching the internet for locally-based design companies and came up with three possible options. One-off interiors soon emerged as clear favourite and Marian and Rob called in designers Rosalie Whitehead and Vivienne Waddell to help. 'We went into a long consultation period with Rosalie and Vivienne,' Marian says. 'They started running ideas past us and came back with drawings and colour schemes for us to say yes and no to.' Moving the boiler opened up the room and they agreed on a new layout.

With all the basics complete, Marian and Rob were happy to take Rosalie and Vivienne's advice on the fresh blue wall colour and simple vertical blinds for the windows. The couple are delighted with their contemporary kitchen, and it has inspired them to tackle the rest of the house. 'We love it', Marian smiles, 'Christmas is going to be extra special this year. I can't wait!
